This is our first summer in Texas and we are on a pretty tight budget because of our move. Normally, we get a chance to go on a vacation, but we spent that budget making the move here. That means we are going to have to get really creative with coming up with fun things today.

Here are a few fun ideas of how to have fun this summer and save money from the owners of OZCodes. I really like the volunteering together idea. We have done this as a family before and it is really awesome.

Summer is the best time to let your hair down and unwind. But you don’t want summer fun to cause you to stress afterward by making it impossible to look at your bank balance. So, to guarantee you can have a good time while sticking to a budget, keep these seven tips in mind.

Tip #1: Budget differently for summer months

First, it can be helpful to completely change your budgeting game. Instead of sticking to a fixed monthly budget, be true to yourself and consider increasing the summer spending limit. You don’t want to say ‘no’ to having a good time – so, try saving more during the spring and autumn season and increase your summer’s entertainment budget slightly.

Tip #2: Use the open spaces

While the cold weather might force us to hang out indoors and therefore, spend money on restaurants and other entertainment places, summer offers plenty of free spaces. You can simply go and hang out at local parks and beaches. Packing a picnic basket with treats and enjoying your friends’ company at the local park is much cheaper than eating out at a restaurant.

Tip #3: Share the costs

Summer should be spent with friends and family. Use the opportunity to hang out with friends to cut down costs – organize potluck events, go on road trips together and get group discounts at restaurants and theaters. The bigger the group the more you’ll save and the more fun you’ll have!

Tip #4: Check for free events

Most cities and towns around the world are buzzing with summer activities. While some come with an entrance fee, many tend to be free. So, before summer begins, create a list of nearby events – you can even check neighboring towns – and schedule the ones you’d like to experience. Don’t forget, you can sometimes volunteer for events and get a free ticket!

Tip #5: Organize a garage sale

Summer is the perfect time to get rid of stuff you don’t need. By selling your unwanted items, you’ll also get to have a bit of extra money to spend on something fun. So, gather your friends and family and organize a garage sale. You can advertise it on social media and by getting the whole neighborhood involved you can have a fun day outdoors!

Tip #6: Check for online deals

Now, if you are interested in having a good time and going for a trip or a fancy restaurant, check deals online before booking. Use discount codes available at OZCodes.com.au to cut the cost of your summer fun. Coupon sites provide lots of offers for spa treatments, hotel stays, movie tickets, etc which will help you in saving a good amount of money.

Tip #7: Volunteer

If you got free time and you’re looking for something fun to do, consider volunteering. Perhaps you can help out a local animal shelter or hang out with unprivileged kids. This can be a lot of fun and it will help boost your career prospects. It’s also a perfect way to spend time with your partner.

With the above tips in mind, you can have tons of fun during summer but do so without spending your whole budget at once. So, start planning and have a fantastic summer!
